The Dutch Viola Society hosted the 45th International Viola Congress (IVC2018) in Rotterdam, from November 20th – 24th, 2018. It was the first time ever that this yearly event of the International Viola Society (IVS) took place in The Netherlands, so it was a unique opportunity to present the international viola community to The Netherlands, and vice versa.
The congress theme was: EXPLORING NEW WAYS TO PERFORM.
With this theme, we offered a diverse, accessible, innovative and progressive programming, placing the viola at the centre of the musical scene. We also celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the International Viola Society.
The daytime congress programming followed a traditional IVC format, with Delegates from IVS member sections presenting and performing. The surrounding festival activities combine world-class concert hall experiences with talent programmes, crossover performances and educational activities. Some of today’s most renowned viola players performed, among them Lawrence Power, Kim Kashkashian, Nobuko Imai, Atar Arad and Timothy Ridout.
With its excellent facilities, international character, diverse audience groups and powerful cultural cooperating partners, the City of Rotterdam proved itself as a perfect host environment for IVC2018.
This site is now in “maintenance mode”, to keep the memories alive from a fantastic week.
The next International Viola Congress is held in Poznan (Poland), September 24th – 28th, 2019.
